MicrowaveBlue stain solution Description

MicrowaveBlue stain solution is a colloidal coomassie protein stain activated by microwave. The fast 15-min procedure of SDS-gel staining consists of two 5-min stages: washing with water following by incubation with MicrowaveBlue stain solution. MicrowaveBlue allows for cost-effective speed and sensitivity while staining, without any loss in quality or resolution.

MicrowaveBlue stain solution Procedure

  • Upon completion of electrophoresis, place the polyacrylamide gel immediately into a microwavable plastic tray with 100-200 ml deionized water. The gel must be completely submerged in the water, and it should not stick to the bottom.
  • Microwave gel in water for 1-2 minutes until the water boils.
  • Gently Incubate gel in water on a rocker for 5 minutes (10 minutes for 1.5 mm minigels).
  • Discard the water and add sufficient amount of MicrowaveBlue stain solution to cover the gel (25 - 50 ml for standard mini gel).
  • Microwave the gel for 30-60 seconds in MicrowaveBlue until MicrowaveBlue starts boiling. Important: Make sure your gel is completely covered with MicrowaveBlue the microwaves might damage portions of the gel that are not covered.
  • Incubate the gel in MicrowaveBlue for additional 5 minutes with rocking (proteins bands will start to appear after a few seconds!!!). Use 10 minutes for 1.5 mm minigels.
  • Discard MicrowaveBlue, rinse the gel with water. The gel can be kept in water for several weeks. Important: Do not use acetic acid to store gels. It will destain your protein bands!
